MEDIA INDUSTRY, AS YOU CAN SEE (GRAPHIC ON SCREEN), THERE ARE NUMEROUS TYPES OF
ROLES BASED AROUND MEDIA,FROM TECHNICAL AND EDITORIAL JOBS TO EVEN CREATIVE AND
EVEN MANAGERIAL JOBS. WHEN LOOKING TO BE EMPLOYED IN THE MEDIA TRADE, YOU ARE
BEST DECIDING ON A CERTAIN SECTOR IN WHICH YOU ARE MOST INTERESTED IN. IT IS
BEST IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A QUALIFICATION IN A SPECIFIC ROLE, GIVING YOU A
BETTER IDEA OF WHICH SECTOR TO PORTRAY YOURSELF IN.

CANNOT SIMPLY SAY WHATEVER YOU LIKE OR DO WHATEVER YOU PLEASE. YOU MUST FOLLOW
THESE RULES SET IN PLACE. THIS IS BECAUSE THERE ARE LEGAL RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE
WHICH PREVENT YOU FROM BEING ALLOWED TO DO THESE THINGS. THERE ARE ALSO OTHER
RESTRICTIONS IN WHICH YOU, AS A MEDIA PRACTITIONER WILL COME ACROSS IN YOUR
TIME, IF YOU DECIDE TO CHOOSE THIS AS A CAREER OPTION, SUCH AS, COPYRIGHT AND
CENSORSHIP. THEREFORE YOU MUST TAKE CARE AND ACT RESPECTFUL TO OTHER PEOPLE’S
WORK AND FEELINGS.

SPECIFICATIONS, LIKE THERE ARE ZERO HOUR CONTRACTS, FIXED LANCE CONTACTS AND
STRINGER CONTRACTS, THESE ARE SOME OF THE VARIOUS CONTRACTS YOU MAY COME ACROSS
IN YOUR FUTURE CAREERS DEPENDING ON WHAT JOB YOU CHOOSE.

WHEN THEY NEED WORKERS, PEOPLE WHO ARE ON ZERO HOUR CONTRACTS ARE PEOPLE WHO
MAYBE HAVE LOW GRADES OR STUDENTS DOING PART TIME.
THE LAST CONTRACT
I WANT TO GO ON TO TALK ABOUT IS A FREELANCE CONTRACT, THIS
WHILST A CONTRACTOR
WILL WORK FULL TIME FOR ONE CLIENT, OR 'EMPLOYER' ON CLIENT SITE, A FREELANCER
USUALLY HAS THEIR OWN PREMISES (OR WORKS FROM HOME) AND HAS MULTIPLE CLIENTS. FREELANCERS
WILL WORK ON A HOURLY BASIS AND COULD HAVE MANY DIFFERENT PIECES OF WORK
ONGOING FOR A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT CLIENTS.

POPULAR CONTRACT BECAUSE YOU CAN WORK FROM HOME AND DO ALL YOUR WORK FOR YOUR
CUSTOMER AT HOME, SOME FREELANCERS MAYBE ASSIGNED TO A COMPANY FOR A COUPLE OF
MONTHS ON A CONTACT AND WHEN THEIR TASK IS COMPLETE THE CONTRACT MAYBE
TERMINATED OR MAYBE RENEWED, THE REASON WHY IT’S POPULAR BECAUSE YOU’RE ALWAYS
IN DEMAND AND SOMETIMES IT CAN BE REALLY QUICK AND EASY MONEY.

ONE OF THE MAIN PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES NEEDED FOR A ROLE IN TV IS
CONFIDENCE. WITH CERTAIN ROLES INVOLVING YOU TO WORK IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA
LIKE TV PRESENTER YOU WILL HAVE A CERTAIN REPUTATION THEREFORE YOU NEED
CONFIDENCE TO GO OUT A PRODUCE A GOOD SHOW.
USING TV PRESENTER AS AN EXAMPLE. THIS ROLE IS PEOPLE WHO HAVE
COME FROM DOING OTHER JOBS LIKE, BEING A JOURNALIST OR ANOTHER SECTOR OF THE
MEDIA. NO FORMAL DEGREE IS NEEDED TO WORK IN THIS SECTOR BUT YOU MIGHT WANT TO
DO WORK EXPERIENCE FIRST BEFORE BECOMING A PRESENTER.
A MORE DEMANDING JOB THAT IS INVOLVED IN A TV ENVIRONMENT IS
BEING A CAMERA OPERATOR. USEFUL BACKGROUNDS INCLUDE MEDIA STUDIES, JOURNALISM
AND MEDIA PRODUCTION. A THING THAT YOU WILL NEED TO BECOME A CAMERA OPERATOR/
CAMERAMAN IS EVIDENCE THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THE JOB, KNOW HOW TO WORK THE
CAMERA AND YOU WILL NEED INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS BECAUSE MORE
LIKELY THAN NOT YOU WILL BE WORKING WITH MORE THAN ONE PERSON.
ONE OF MANY HIGHER UP ROLES IN TV IS TV PRODUCER. A KEY SKILL
FOR THIS JOB YOU WILL HAVE TO BE A CREATIVE IN MANAGEMENT AND ALSO BEING ABLE
TO COME UP WITH NEW CREATIVE IDEAS. ALSO YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE LEADERSHIP
ABILITY THUS YOU WILL NEED EXPERIENCE IN ANOTHER RELATED ROLE IN MOVIE OR IN
THE TV INDUSTRY.
